Europe’s biggest student football programme will kick off in just over a month with the biggest kick off game in British university sport providing the perfect start to a ground-breaking year of football.
Not only will a record number of teams be fighting to wrest the National Championship and National Challenge titles from the respective grasps of the Portsmouth Destroyers and the Cardiff Cobras but there will be the full roll out of Conference Flag Football Championships for both males and females and the launch of the National Women’s 6 on 6 competition.
The Autumn term has started well for many of the universities. Evidence suggests that interest levels have never been higher and team recruitment numbers are up. Add in the fact that the unseasonable weather has meant that the best laid plans for combines, camps and practices have not been washed away in the usual Autumnal rain and it would seem that there is a lot to be positive about as teams gear up for the big weekend.
‘We are delighted with the feedback we are getting from Pre Season’ said Andy Fuller, BAFA’s Director for Student Football Development. ‘Teams have been working hard since long before the summer to ensure that once term started they could hit the ground running.’
Fuller continued ‘This season will not only be defined by the great on field action but also by the high quality event which teams now put on. xpLosION has set a very high bar for a number of years, a bar which others are now nudging. I am particularly looking forward to Super Bowl weekend when there are a host of rivalry games which will showcase great entertainment, from Edinburgh downwards.’
The Kick Off Game will be at the University of Birmingham on Saturday November 5th at 5pm.
