Grassroots American Football is alive and well in Scotland. You only have to look at the evidence to determine that.
The Scottish Flag Football Association's 2006 League is about to get underway and the response from around the country has been phenomenal. 35 teams will be competing for the Scotish Championship this season, with another half dozen teams in development and aiming to enter the league in 2007. Among the well established teams are 10 new teams who are entering the league for the first time. A definite indicator that American Football is still thriving in the UK. The SFFA have taken the flame ignited by the Scottish Claymores and they've succeeded in keeping it alive well after the Claymores' demise.
The 2006 League will be split into 4 age groups Cadet (8-12 yrs); Junior (13-15yrs), Youth (16-18yrs) and Senior (18yrs and above). Each age group will be split in to two conferences North/East and West Central; with the exception of the Juniors who will contest the Championship in one conference. The Conferences are as follows:
The top teams from each conference will go through to Finals Day which is scheduled for September 30th 2006, where they will compete in playoffs for the Scottish Championship Trophy.
