On April 18, a meeting took place between Mark Brian, BUSA – Head of Sports Programmes, and Ken Walters, BAFA – WSP Manager, to discuss the challenges and benefits of BAFA joining BUSA.

Shortly afterwards, at a BAFA Board of Directors meeting on April 21, findings were presented and a unanimous directive from the BAFA Board was given to proceed towards BUSA membership.

Further to this, at a meeting on May 14 between Mark Brian, Ken Walters and Jim Messenger (BAFA Director, BAFCA President and Head Coach of University team – Hertfordshire Hurricanes), the current landscape and the unique attributes of our sport were considered and the process for BAFA to become members of BUSA was scoped out.

Since this meeting, and after consultation by the BAFA Board of Directors, the BAFA are delighted to confirm they will endeavour to complete a membership application for submission at the next available opportunity – the first stage of this process will be to write to all the athletic unions in Great Britain seeking support of their upcoming membership.

On approaching the forthcoming membership, BAFA Chairman, Gary Marshall commented, “The BAFA is committed to creating an equitable environment for all students in Great Britain. Becoming a BUSA member delivers this for us and, if successful, the BAFA look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with BUSA for the benefit of all students in Great Britain”.
