BAFA confirms details of the BAFA Convention

The BAFA is delighted to announce further details of its inaugural Convention at the University of Leicester on June 30 to July 2 inclusive.

The convention will feature many topics that are key to the development of the sport in Great Britain. The topics, allocated provisional timings and delegate places available are as follows:

• Development and Whole Sport Plan (including getintoamericanfootball.com launch) – 80 mins/350 places
• Club governance workshop – 120 mins/350 places
• Media and Marketing workshop – 90 mins/350 places
• Awareness of “what officials do” seminar – 180 mins/350 places
• “Get into American Football” seminar – 90 mins/350 places
• Why youth football is important  – 90 mins/350 places
• Launch of British Flag Football federation – 90 mins/350 places
• ClubMark seminar – 120 mins/350 places
• Working with Children workshop – 120 mins/70 places
• General forum – 180 mins/70 places
• Statisticians workshop – 90 mins/70 places
• Flag football rules overview – 90 mins/70 places
• “100% me” – anti-doping awareness seminar – 90 mins/70 places
• Training course for Elite Program Officials workshop – 360 mins/40 places
• Child protection workshop – 360 mins/40 places
• Field goal PAT techniques from snap to kick (coaches only session) – time/places to confirm
• Kick off techniques (coaches only session) – time/places to confirm
• Mental preparation (coaches only session) – time/places to confirm

There will also be numerous buzz sessions – informal Q&A sessions with the coaches and demonstration flag football games at the nearby sports complex. More information on the seminars and workshops will be provided very soon.

Attendance is free for all BAFA members – however numbers will be limited due to the facilities at the venue, so book early to avoid disappointment!


US Coaches attend the convention

As part of the convention, BAFCA has secured the services of some excellent speakers, as the end of June period is the time active US college coaches take annual leave. As a result, BAFCA are very pleased to confirm the attendance of the following American coaches:

•    Dale Ploessl - Offensive Co-ordinator, Offensive Line Coach, Drake University
•    Justin Roberts - Defensive Line Coach, Tennessee State University
•    Brent Pease - Assistant Head Coach, Receivers Coach, Boise State University

Each of these coaches will be delivering two clinics per day. BAFCA also have the services of some excellent British speakers – more information on speakers and subjects will be available soon.

As usual, The NFL Video Library will be open on all three days. This is an outstanding source of information on all aspects of football. BAFCA will also have coaching books available for sale.


An evening with OJ – guests confirmed

An added attraction at the Convention will be a gala dinner on the Saturday evening. The gala dinner – a four-course table service evening meal – will include award presentations and entertainment provided by OJ Borg who will interviewing guests of honour, NFL UK Managing Director, Alistair Kirkwood and, RFU Head of Planning, Funding and Resources, Nick Bunting in a feature entitled “An evening with OJ Borg”.


Reservations for delegate places

To reserve a delegate place at a presentation, please email convention@bafa.org.uk with your requirements and your BAFA membership number. Reservations will be given on a ‘first come – first served’ basis. A confirmation email will be sent out to you in due course.


Reservations for BAFA Convention gala dinner

To purchase a ticket for the BAFA Convention gala dinner (priced at £25.00), please email dinner@bafa.org.uk to book your place and advise and dietary requirements. Again, reservations will be given on a ‘first come – first served’ basis. A confirmation invoice email will be sent out to you in due course.


Reservations deadline

Please note, the deadline for booking delegate places at the BAFA Convention and the BAFA Convention gala dinner is midnight, Wednesday, June 13 – there will be no ‘on the day’ registrations available.
