The British American Football Association (BAFA) is the national governing body for the sport of American Football in Great Britain. Through our member bodies, we offer participation for both the contact and non-contact versions of the sport.
British American Football is played between eleven players at each side, with the ultimate goal of scoring points by advancing the ball into the opposing team’s end zone by running with it or throwing it to a teammate. The first game of American football took place in November 6, 1869, between Rutgers and Princeton. Points can be scored by carrying the ball over the opponent’s goal line, throwing the ball over that goal line, kicking the ball through the opponent’s goal posts or now it gets fun - tackling an opposing ball carrier in his own end zone.
