Following a tremendous victory in Poland in the Autumn the GB Lions Youth programme returned to action in the UK with a development fixture against the Filton Academy programme.

The game, taking place in testing conditions, gave the GB staff an opportunity to look at players who will form part of their plans for the 2010 international calender and beyond and it gave the Filton team an opportunity to see how quickly their Academy programme is progressing.

In a closely fought contest neither Offense managed to overcome the difficult weather conditions.

The Lions scored in the first half on a 50 yard interception return by Nick Olive. The Lions extra point kick was blocked.

The Pride replied after they caused a fumble in the visitors endzone and recovered it for a Touchdown - their extra point kick was good.

GB Head Coach Steve Rains said of the game

I would like to take the opportunity to thank the Filton Academy for hosting the game and to congratulate their players and coaching staff on the performance.

I would also like to publicly thank all of those players who now graduate from the GB Lions Youth programme - they have been fantastic.

Naturally we missed our players who were not able to participate due to a combination of injury or availability . However, we learned some important lessons from this and gained some valuable time for the younger players - all of which bodes well for the future.
