The British American Football Association are delighted to confirm they are to receive funding from Sport England via the Central Council of Physical Recreation (CCPR)  to support the development of our Whole Sport Plan including the amalgamation of American Football participation streams and for the development of our central registration system - Play Smart.

The funding, part of the 2006/7 Impact and Improvement Fund, is for sports that are not Sport England ‘Priority’ and ‘Development’ sports and available for projects that meet specific criteria. The award is the first ever government funding the BAFA has received.

On hearing the news, an elated BAFA Chairman, Gary Marshall commented, “This is undoubtedly the greatest moment for grassroots American Football in Great Britain. The receipt of funding is also an acknowledgement by Government agencies of the good work our membership is doing to develop American Football in Great Britain in an appropriate manner”.

CCPR Head of Services, Sallie Barker, added, "The BAFA submitted an excellent application for funding to support the development of its Whole Sport Plan.  The approach BAFA plans to adopt will provide a vision and clear direction for the sport.  We look forward to working with them to maximise opportunities for everyone to participate in American Football".

BAFA WSP manager, Ken Walters concluded, “We still have a lot of hard work ahead in building and delivering BAFA's Whole Sport Plan. This award is very welcome and a recognition we are moving in the right direction. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those at the CCPR for their support and advice during the application process. We look forward to continuing to work with them on future projects”.
