The BAFL are delighted to confirm that Wilson Sporting Goods are to replace Rawlings as official game day apparel supplier.
The decision to change of partners began around BritBowl XX when UK agent for Rawlings, Elie Levy of First Base International, decided to terminate his contract with Rawlings leaving the BAFL without representation with the US sports manufacturer. At being released from the agreement, Elie was apologetic and saddened at not being able to work with the American Football community in Great Britain, "It is a shame that the relationship with Rawlings cannot continue – I was looking forward to supporting the development of the sport in Great Britain. It undoubtedly has a bright future!".
At the same time as the BAFL began sourcing an alternate supplier, Stuart Preece of Wilson Sporting Goods attended BritBowl XX. Stuart was impressed with calibre of the event and pledged to support the BAFL – extending the already established relationship with the official BAFA game ball. As a result, the BAFL have reflected on the relationship as ‘official supplier’ and, after a period of discussion and negotiation, the BAFL are delighted to announce that Wilson will become the new partner for game-day apparel and merchandise with immediate effect.
On the new partnership, BAFL Media and Marketing Director, Ken Walters commented, "To be associated with Wilson – a recognised brand with the NFL and NCAA – will undoubtedly elevate the BAFL brand. But most importantly, to be able to dress a player in such excellent quality game shirts and pants from as little £26 with the same product as worn by NCAA players will be an enormous will benefit to new and established teams".
Initial enquiries from Edinburgh Wolves and Doncaster Mustangs have resulted in orders for game-day apparel and merchandise – as well as kit for the upcoming Scotland/England Home Nations youth trophy game in February. A number of other teams are also in the finalising order details in time for the upcoming BAFL season.
Commenting on the partnership, Stuart Preece of Wilson Sporting Goods commented, "American Football in Great Britain is on the up. We at Wilson, both here in Great Britain and the US, are committed to supporting the growth of the sport in Great Britain".
