BAFCA President, Jim Messenger recently attended the two day 'Three Unions' Trainers course at Heythrop Park in Oxfordshire. The trainers course is for senior coach educators and is just one part of the comprehensive coach education system operated jointly by the RFU, Welsh and Scottish Rugby Unions. The system, developed in line with the UK Coaching Framework, has been delivering UK Coaching Certificate endorsed qualifications since 2004.
Jim Messenger said, "Rugby Union is among the UK's most experienced and well developed sports. It is one of the primary trailblazer sports working towards the UK Coaching Framework vision. Their education system for coaches is excellent. Whilst the technical and tactical content of our two sports is different, Rugby Union's process of teaching coaches, coach educators and assessors is highly relevant to us. If we put aside the cultural barriers, I am certain there is a great deal we can learn from rugby".
Jim continued, "I would like to thank all the senior coaching staff on the course and in particular Gary Henderson (RFU Head of Coach Development) and Will Feebery (RFU Coach Development Manager) for their generosity and openness in sharing their knowledge."
