The BAFA are delighted to announce a partnership with the RFU to develop relationship to share referees.
BAFA WSP Manager, Ken Walters and BAFRA Recruitment Director, Alun Price, recently met with Richard Glynne-Jones, RFU Referee Manager and Nick Bunting, Head of Planning Funding and Resources, at Twickenham to discuss the potential of a relationship between our two organisations to share refereeing practices and personnel.
Speaking on the meeting, Ken Walters commented, “BAFA, like many National Governing Bodies, has the issue of ‘too few referees’. The meeting scoped out a pilot project with one of the RFU’s forty referee societies whereby, it is hoped, BAFA will be able to offer the opportunity of officiating American Football games to RFU referees”.
Alun Price added, “The RFU is clearly a well developed organisation with many practices that BAFA and BAFRA could benefit from. Nonetheless, the partnership is a two-way street and it is hoped that BAFRA can also provide positive contribution to the RFU in some capacity”.
As a result of the meeting, a pilot project will be launched at a Referees Society meeting in the next few days. Richard Glynne-Jones commented, “After discussing the topic with Ken and Alun, it is clear that there are no conflicts of interest in developing a relationship between our two organisations. We are delighted to be working with BAFA and extending this opportunity to our referees”.
Ken concluded, “If successful, it is hoped that the project will be swiftly rolled out to the other societies in England - as well as in Scotland and Wales after consultation with the relevant agencies and governing bodies”.
