The BAFA are delighted to announce the launch of ‘Get into American Football’ - their advertising and promotional campaign designed to capture the interest in the sport of American Football in Great Britain and introduce new people to the five pillars of the sport - play, referee, coach, volunteer and fan.

Whole Sport Plan Manager, Ken Walters commented, “A recent summary audit of our sport showed that in some areas the BAFA is currently growing in excess 12% per annum - twelve times greater than the PSA 3 targets set by the government. Indeed, in some areas, we are turning away people from our sport as we are unable to provide them with the service they are looking for”. Talking about the issues in the sport, Ken continued, “Our challenge is less about recruiting people into the sport. Our challenge is more about directing the interest to the volunteer workforce who are able to manage the demand for participation. ‘Get into American Football’ will provide people interested in our sport enough information to be inspired to investigate further and, hopefully, contact the delivery agencies (teams, coaching and officiating organisations) who can do this”.

Speaking on where the huge interest for the sport emanates from, Ken added, “The BAFA are in an enviable position compared to other sports in that the NFL has a huge media and marketing presence in the British market”, Ken continued, “We have to thank the NFL UK offices for bringing the Dolphins/Giants regular season game to the British shores and the huge increase in media exposure this attracts. We also would like to thank them for their support of the BAFA in areas such as “Get into American Football - we are looking into formalising a working relationship with the NFL in certain areas in the coming weeks and months”.

The official BAFA website, getintoamericanfootball.com went live at the BAFA Convention on June 30, 2007.
